Here's everything you need to do to get us started — takes about 10 minutes.
So glad to have you! There are just 3 short steps to complete on your end before we can dive in. No calls needed — just follow the steps below and reach out if anything feels confusing.
Step 1 — Set up your YNAB account & invite me
You'll receive a separate email from me with a special email address. Use it for everything in this step — not your personal email.
Create your account
→ Go to youneedabudget.com and create a new account
→ Use the special email address I sent you (e.g. sum@sernaaccounting.com)
→ Choose a plan and complete your subscription (~$109/year)
Invite me to your budget
→ Click your budget name in the top left corner of YNAB
→ Select YNAB Together from the dropdown
→ Click Get Started, enter your name, click Next
→ Click Invite a member
→ Enter the special email address I sent you
→ Click Invite — then reply and let me know. I'll accept from there
Step 2 — Add me as your accountant in QuickBooks Online
This gives me access to your books so I can do your bookkeeping.
→ Log in at quickbooks.intuit.com
→ Click the gear icon ⚙️ in the top right
→ Under "Your Company" select Manage Users
→ Click the Accounting Firms tab
→ Click Invite and enter: gio@sernaaccounting.com
→ Hit Send Invitation — done!
Step 3 — Add me as a view-only user at your bank
This lets me pull your statements directly each month — you'll never have to send them to me manually.
→ Log in to your bank's online banking portal
→ Go to Account Settings or Account Management
→ Look for Manage Users, User Administration, or Shared Access
→ Select Add New User
→ Enter my name and email: gio@sernaaccounting.com
→ Set access to View Only (sometimes called "Inquiry Access" or "Read Only")
→ Select all business bank accounts and credit cards
→ Save and submit — I'll receive an email to complete my setup
💡 Available on most business accounts at Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, US Bank, and others. Not sure where to find it? Just reach out — I'll help.

Once all three steps are complete, I'll take it from there. I'll connect your accounts, get your books set up, and send you a confirmation when everything is live. Most clients are fully set up within a few days.
